for FRENCH…When I was a kid and my dad was with the UN, French was the universal language for the UN. People think ENGLISH but actually English been Unversal Language for only 15 years now. @cmc634 I wasn’t suggesting that an adult can learn like a child (i.e. native fluency without an accent.) But adults learn to speak foreign languages (or five of them) all of the time. My point was that immersion is the most effective way to learn another language. Do you use audio flash cards (w/ audio ripped from native French speakers)? That helps a lot too… especially in terms of aural comprehension of natives speaking at full speed.

@Hoopermazing It’s LAD(Language Acquisition Device) in all natives speakers of a particular language. We gradually lose this ability roughly after puberty. yikes!!
